OK, so what is RealClassic? That was a relatively easy question to answer when we started RealClassic.co.uk in December 2002. It's become harder to pin down since then (but we'll try because this is an intro and we're supposed to tell you what you're looking at). Loading...

RealClassic.co.uk is the most comprehensive classic biking site that we know of, featuring expert and enthusiastic riders from all around the world who share their passion for old motorcycles. It's where you buy, sell, read about, wrangle about and celebrate all kinds of classic bike.

Loading... And then there's the magazine, which does all of the above all over again with yet more original, new features. On paper. So you can read it in the bath. The only downside to the magazine is that you have to wait a month to get each new issue, whereas the site features new material almost every working day.

But mainly we love old bikes and that's what RealClassic (the site and the magazine) are all about. Hope you enjoy it.

RealClassic.co.uk: Like What You See?

As you may know, RealClassic.co.uk isn't run by a great big company. It's run by old bike enthusiasts and is supported by our advertisers. But advertising only pays for part of the site's costs. If you enjoy reading what we do, then perhaps you could contribute, too...

RealClassic.co.uk is slightly unusual on the Internet, in that it isn't a loss-leader for a big corporation who are looking to sell you something expensive. Nor is it a hobby site, updated once in a blue moon, or a loose collection of disparate message boards or newsgroups. RealClassic.co.uk is an entire monthly magazine, delivered to you piece by piece in daily updates. This site is produced by media professionals who know (most of the time...) what they're doing with words and pictures and all those links and widgets which make it all hang together. (And load properly) (And not give you a migraine).

The reason that RealClassic.co.uk is now the most popular old bike site on the Internet is because we try to do a proper job. Proper editorial features (not half a story with the rest in a magazine). Frequently updated small ads (tweaked twice a week). A good mix of news and events and bikes and even a sense of humour. And all that takes time. It's a full time job keeping the site up to date and shipshape -- we spend around 40 hours a week working on RealClassic.co.uk, and that doesn't take into account all the hours and hours which our contributors put in to writing the features.

So, do you enjoy what we do? Are you a regular reader? Do you come to browse the small ads or event listings or chat on the message board? Have you sold or bought a bike through us? Have you learned something useful from the information we've supplied? And so on...

We want to go on making RealClassic.co.uk bigger and better as the years roll by, and we hope you'll continue to join in the fun, and enjoy reading what we do. Many ezines have to fund themselves by becoming 'pay to view' or subscriber sites only. We prefer to give you the choice.

If you like what you see here then please make a small donation towards the running costs. Most paper magazines cost £3 per month or more: we'd be very happy if you paid £20 for a year's online entertainment. If you can't afford that much, no problem. But it would be nice to know that you appreciate the site enough to pay for it - so send us a fiver if that seems appropriate.

A Couple Of Questions You May Have

1) I already subscribe to the paper RealClassic magazine. Doesn't that pay for the site?
Nope. The price of the magazine just about covers the magazine. Lots of the magazine's readers aren't online and can't even see the site - it doesn't seem right to make them pay for it.

2) I made a donation to the website last year. Do I have to make another one?
It depends how big the donation was! Check your conscience and your wallet...

3) Don't you earn thousands from all those eBay and Amazon and similar adverts?
Sadly, no. For most of the ads we get paid a tiny wee amount when you buy something after clicking on them. It all adds up over time, but the sums aren't huge.

*In case you were wondering, the Cosmic Bike Co Ltd is owned by Rowena Hoseason and Frank Westworth and publishes RealClassic magazine and this site
