BEWARE THIS SCAM! If you list an email address online then you may approached by 'agents' or 'brokers', offering to buy the bike for the asking price, no haggling, immediately. They say that a third party will send a cheque for too much money (sometimes several thousand pounds too much) and ask that you forward the balance to another account straight away. The cheque will be a fake, sometimes a good copy of a legitimate one which may clear AT FIRST but will eventual leave you, the seller, several thousand pounds the poorer.

Don’t be misled by a sob story or the promise of too much money. A genuine buyer will always want to inspect the bike you are selling! If you are contacted by a distant buyer then treat them with extreme caution, and never agree to launder funds for a stranger. Ask to meet them in a public place. If you take a cheque from a foreign buyer then ask your bank to confirm that the funds are kosher, and do NOT make payments to a third party on someone else's behalf. Also – VERY IMPORTANT – you should never give out your bank details to someone you don’t know on email. Be sensible.

A legitimate buyer will turn up for your bike – he probably lives just down the road! Don't get entangled in some global scam. Classic biking is very straightforward. If anything sounds to good to be true then... it probably is.
