Regular Rides

Ü The VMCC’s VINTAGE TRAINING DAY at the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon allows newcomers to learn to ride hand-change and girder fork machines under supervision from their owners. Entry forms from www.vmcc.net, and all part of the giant Banbury Run weekend; www.banbury-run.co.uk

 

June 16th

ÜThe VMCC’s  BANBURY RUN returns to the Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire. New routes and checkpoints for the 600 entrants on motorcycles made before 1931. Huge autojumble; masses to see and do all day. See www.banbury-run.co.uk

Ü The annual RIDE OF RESPECT travels from Carterton to Brize Norton, between 9am and midday. Around 10,000 riders expected to pay their respects to the military personnel who serve in Afghanistan. Fund-raiser for the Royal British Legion.

 

June 19th

Ü It’s SHINY BIKE NIGHT from 7pm at The Plough at Cadsden, Princes Risborough Bucks HP27 0NB. Classic bike concours event with lots of prizes, raffle, music. Great country setting. June 21st

ÜAll RC people are welcome to join the 216 RIDE in the south-west. Meet up at Louis' Tea Room, Kit Hill Approach Road, Callington, Cornwall, PL17 8AX, 01579 389223 (10:30 for 11:00 departure). Lead by long-suffering Phill we will trundle off to Dartmoor for more scoff (bring a packed lunch and possibly a golf umbrella), then back to Louis Tea Room for a cuppa, plus or minus scoff. Ü The NEWARK BIKE BONANZA is a new event at Newark Showground, Winthorpe. Indoor and outdoor displays, wall of death, off-road trial, tyre challenge, sidecar displays, charity auction, ‘Get On’ riding experience plus clubs, trade stands, jumble and more. July 13th and 14th

Ü The VMCC’s FESTIVAL OF 1000 BIKES returns to Mallory Park, and gives enthusiasts the opportunity to ride their own machines in multiple track sessions over the weekend. The Saturday caters for all classes of road machines from the earliest veterans through to machines of the superbike era. With lesser noise restrictions, Sunday is the day for riders to display their racing machinery in special track sessions running throughout the day. Throughout the weekend there are also Past Masters parades (see Wayne Gardner on a works Honda; Trevor Nation, Terry Rymer and Steve Spray on rotary Nortons, and many more famous faces on fabulous machines), Pre 65 Trials, historic Grass Track, historic Sprint Demo, the Avenue of Clubs display, trade Stands and autojumble, real ale, live music, Stars on Stage and more. Ü The Sunbeam Club welcome all to their GARDEN OF ENGLAND RUN for veteran, vintage and post-vintage (1932 to 1940) motorcycles and three-wheelers of any make. As it takes place on Bastille Day so French bikes and/or French riders will be given a free entry. Starts and finishes at Headcorn Airfield in Kent on the A274, with a range of entertainment for the ‘support crew’ including café and museum. The 45-mile route is comprehensively marked and selected to be suitable for machines of this era. Marshals will be posted at key points.Lunch stop, souvenir horsebrasses for all finishers. Ü It’s the VMCC’s FOUNDERS DAY, one of the biggest events in the old bike calendar. Clubs, autojumble, ringside events and the theme for display bikes of BMW and Sunbeam machines. Ü The NATIONAL RALLY of Scotland takes place this weekend; the final part of the Three Nations Challenge, which involves visiting checkpoints on your chosen challenge. Ü The 31st annual BATTLE OF THE BRITS is one of the premier British motorcycle & car shows and swap meets in the United States, often drawing more than 200 bikes and 400 cars. Ü The VJMC host a Classic Bike JAPFEST at the Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford in Somerset from 10am to 5pm. Features club stands, private exhibits, trade stands and autojumble. £10 admission includes entry to the Haynes Museum. Ü The THUNDERFEST TIMED TRIAL is at Darley Moor circuit, high in the Peak District of Derbyshire, near Ashbourne, as part of the club’s general racing day but with its own classic paddock and scrutineer. Competitors chose their target speed between 50mph and 75mph and aims to achieve it. The winner will be the person who manages an average speed nearest to their declared target. Road bikes, as well as race machines, are welcome to take part. All classics are welcome to join the display in the paddock, next to the Thunderfest entrants, with souvenirs for display participants. Ü The CLASSIC MECHANICS SHOW returns to Stafford County Showground and spotlights motorcycles from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. This has grown into a massive event including half a dozen halls and heated marquees plus outdoor displays and acres of club stands, trade and jumble stalls, also awesome Wall of Death displays. Special racer Christian Sarron. Top tip: attend on Sunday if you can because it’s far less frantic so you’ll see more and avoid being trampled. Opens 9am both days.
