Classic Endurance: Endurance Legends Donington 4 Hour
Action On Track – Action Off Track – Action in the Paddock – Here's what's planned so far at the Donington Park 4 Hour round of the European Classic Series...
The Endurance Legends 4 Hour UK round of the European Classic Series of classic endurance races will take place at Donington Park on the 6th and 7th of May this year. The timetable for the weekend is yet to be confirmed but there's already a full schedule of action both on and off the track.
The four hour endurance race will see qualifying and practice for the Endurance Legends and European Classic Series competitors spread across the Saturday and Sunday, with the race taking place during the day on Sunday.
The ICGP (International Classic Grand Prix) championship bikes will also be in action on the track; ICGP aims to recreate the heyday of 250cc and 350cc Grand Prix racing from 1974 to 1984, gathering legendary riders and machines together to give a flavour of the golden age of lightweight two-stroke competition.
The Lansdowne Classic Series will be present and racing at Donington. The objective of the Lansdowne Series is to 'preserve the spirit of historic Grand Prix' racing by creating a level playing field for those wishing to race genuine and faithful replica pre-1963 Group 1 and 2 motorcycles. Expect a grid of Manx Nortons, Matchless G80s, AJS 7Rs to thunder round the circuit.
There will also be parades for ex-race bikes on both days (still open for entries; the deadline is 31st March) and a Suzuki-specific parade on each day; one for any classic Suzuki and one for examples of the TL series of twins.
And on top of all this, there's a classic trackday with sessions spread across the two days of the weekend; bikes will be grouped into novice, pocket-rocket, middleweight and superbike although entries are already almost full.
The racing, parading and trackdaying will take place on the Donington Park National Circuit, leaving the Melbourne Loop free for additional activities, which will include 'Try a Bike' from the VMCC, club parades and sidecar ferry rides (the latter to be confirmed).
In the Paddock
At traditional endurance races there's usually as much going on in the paddock as there is on the circuit, and the weekend of May 6/7th will be no exception. There'll be celebrity interviews and autograph sessions, a Suzuki Hall of Fame in the Paddock Suite and a TL anniversary display and ride-in, race bike displays, and a club and concours show organised by the VJMC (Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club). There'll also be a trade village and a DJ and live music from Saturday afternoon into the night.
