6th April 2005

Free! Free! It's All Free!

Not that classic bike fans are notorious skinflints, or anything, but we do all tend to appreciate good value. What could be better value than something for nothing? So here we've got lots of things to do with old(ish) motorcycles which will cost you not a single penny...

Free The Enfield 500!

Or is that free fun for Enfield 500s? No, that can't be right either cos 350s are welcome too... err... help, someone, we've become trapped in a headline logic loop and are bound to meet ourselves coming back in a minute...

Ahem. This year's Bullet Mania Summer Seaside Ride-out will take place on Sunday June 19th and, like last year, the start will be at the Silver Ball Café (an old bikers' café), which is on the A10 at Reed, near Royston in Hertfordshire (just north of London). The Band of Bullets plan to depart at 10.30am from the Silver Ball and enjoy a gentle cruise, mostly following the A120 route east to Walton on the Naze, and then park up on the seafront.

Ok, these aren't acutally Bullets, but who knows what Enfield have got up their sleeves for the 2006 model year?

The sound of dozens of Bullets burbling through the seaside town is amazing, and the event is of course all FREE. Check in at the message board the week before for final details.

It's Speedblock-tastic, mate, but what happened to the Kerchuffling?

Ride-In To Rissington

Biker Marc of this parish and the Upper Rissington Sports and Social Club are organising a Classic Bike Ride-In for Sunday 3rd July 2005, to which all RealClassic readers are invited. No doubt you are already reaching for the atlas to locate this fabled Rissington place - no need - let us explain...

Upper Rissington is in the heart of the glorious Cotswolds and the venue offers substantial hard-standing areas on which to park your P&J. Marc is also organising on a licensed bar, teas, coffees, bacon butties and a fully-loaded BBQ, all of which will be up for grabs at reasonable prices. There are also good indoor areas, just in case it rains, and proper toilets. Car parking is also available, and admission is of course COMPLETELY FREE.

Marc hopes to get a few trade stands and local owners clubs to attend but there will be no jumble and definitely no bouncy castles! There will however be two magnificent prizes available, for the Best Bike of the day and the bike Ridden Furthest to the event (so bring your driving licence to prove your point of departure).

Bonus prize for anyone arriving on an NSU Quickly...

Please note, this event is for ridden-in bikes only - although a 'classic' can be whatever you think it should be. So Marc suggests that you turn up anyway on whatever you ride, but be prepared to be mocked if it ain't a Real Classic!

The event starts at 10am and will wrap up at around 4pm. Full details from marc_prog@yahoo.co.uk or call 01451 810439 evenings or weekends only.

Win Tickets To The Welsh Show!

A weekend pass to the Welsh National Motorcycle Show at the end of May would normally cost you £30 on the gate - but you can put away your wallet and get in for free (maybe...).

We've got ten tickets to give away to keen RC readers who want to experience four full days of free-wheelin' fun - this family event features a cracking custom / classic display plus stunt shows, arena display, free dyno (in case you need to know the exact power output of your Bantam D5), helicopter rides, kids' entertainers, big prize raffle (the big prize is a biking holiday in the States), heaps of evening entertainment with five bars and two DJs, B&B and camping on site, over a dozen live bands, good beer at sensible prizes AND £12,000-worth of prizes for the concours competition. Phew. We're exhausted already.

The Welsh National Motorcycle Show takes place at the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells on Friday 27th May to Monday 30th May. If you don't trust your luck then a weekend ticket costs £25 in advance or £30 on the gate, day tickets are £10/day from 01656 841639 or www.welshmotorcycleshows.co.uk. B&B needs to be booked in advance on 01982 552116.

Whatever happened to Max Boyce?Alternatively, simply send a postcard (or sealed envelope) to us with your name and address on it, and answer this cunningly convoluted question (write A, B or C)...

Q: The Welsh National Motorcycle Show get its name from:-

  • A: Its association with whales (especially blue whales)
  • B: The country where it takes place
  • C: Its tendency to make a strange wailing sound all weekend (that'll be the dyno, then)

Send your compo entry to Welsh Ticket Giveaway, PO Box 66, Bude EX23 9ZX by the end of April. The winning 10 free tickets will be picked at random from the correct answers and sent out in the first week in May. (Yes, it does need to be done by SnailMail becos we couldn't take the strain of all those entries arrive by email... TP's quite grumpy enough, without adding another thousand mails to her inbox!).

This picture has nothing to do with anything.
