The RealClassic Royal Enfield Round Britain Ride

The RealClassic riders will be setting off on their Round Britain Ride in less than a month's time. That's two girls, two bikes, 2222 miles and less than two weeks to get it all done. So Rowena extends an invitation - do you want to come along for a ride?

2 Girls, 2 Enfields, 2222 Miles, 2 Much?

When Emm and I first began talking about riding around Britain we didn't know where we were starting, where we were finishing, or exactly how we would get from here to there. We just wanted a really good reason to get out of the office and clock up some serious miles. We didn't know quite how, where, or even when. That was last autumn. Now the Easter Bunny has been and gone and the bikes have been arranged, the dates are set, the route is planned and we're almost ready for the off. (Got the packing to do yet. That might take some time!).

The longest journey begins with a single turn of the wheel... If you can find your way out of the car park, that is.So here's what's happening. Royal Enfield are very kindly loaning us two Electra X 500 Bullets which we're going to take on a grand tour of the UK mainland between May 10th and May 21st, stopping at every (gulp) Royal Enfield dealership on the way around.

We won't be followed by a superstar's support truck and we won't be using no stinkin' SatNav nor motorways* neither. It's just going to be us two girls on two bikes, clocking up about 2222 miles in ten days.

Well... it's nearly going to be just two girls - that is, it's going to be us two girls plus as many of you who'd like to come along and join in the fun. There are a couple of days which we're reserving for quiet riding, so we can thud along in the tranquillity of our own company, but there are plenty of other opportunities for you all to join in somewhere along the route, and we'd love to see you and say hello.

Emm didn't get very far after she forgot to pack her arms. We've even sorted out a couple of days when lots of you should be able to come along and ride with us - including the last leg of the journey which should see us return triumphant (yeah... right!) to Royal Enfield's Cotswold HQ on a sunny Saturday morning (sunshine optional, of course). There's a full itinerary coming on Thursday, for you to check dates and places.

And in case you were wondering - of course it's fine to come along on a less-than-real classic. You're very welcome to join us on any form of two (or three!) wheeler, even if it's one of those new-fangled modern wotnots.

If you do fancy riding with us then there's just a couple of points to remember: we will be travelling at a steady pace and not stopping for anything (doughnuts and missed turns excepted). It's up to you to keep up with us (or slow down enough to stay alongside!).

This is in no way any kind of formal or organised procession: you're welcome to tag along but do so entirely at your own risk, travelling along the same route as we happen to be riding. If you do come along - bring sunshine!

Many of Royal Enfield's dealers are going the whole hog and throwing open their doors to all-comers for special Open Days to coincide with our arrival (so we'd better not fall behind schedule. Oh, the pressure!). We've already heard from several dealers who are doing something extra special to tempt you along - coffee and doughnuts, an evening ride-out and BBQ, even a free Cornish pasty at our furthest stop down south-west. There may be even more things going on at your local dealer which have yet to be finalised, so contact them for more information or check back here nearer the day.

This is also your opportunity to try an Enfield Electra X for yourself. Most dealers will have demo bikes prepped and ready to roll - but demand for a test ride on a brand new Bullet is likely to be high, so it's best if you call in advance to book your spin (especially if it's a weekend).

So. We're nearly set.

Emm's got the spanners and I've got the maps.

What can possibly go wrong? (Don't answer that).

See you somewhere on our Round Britain Ride!

*OK. I give in. We'll probably have to use the motorway for the bit up to Scotland 'cos otherwise it could take for-bloomin'-ever wiggling around the B-roads, and we're on a schedule here. And we might have to resort to a bit of dual-cabbageway now and then if we've slipped behind that schedule. But we're setting off with pure intentions, OK?
