NCC Custom and Classic Bike Show You might think you're safe, but good old British bike riders turn out just about everywhere. The Toaster met a bunch at a Rugby Club. Did they have odd-shaped balls, we wonder? Last weekend saw me headed off for the NCC (National Chopper Club) Custom and Classic Bike Show at the Harpenden Rugby Club in Herts. Mainly custom orientated, the NCC show like so many other venues I visit had a smattering of classic bikes too. You old fogies just love getting 'em out and joining in: excellent!
The standard of vehicle preparation on both bikes and trikes was exemplary, as you would expect. I toured the show with my sons snapping away for me so I am able to delight you classic lovers with a few absolutely delightful photographs of old bikes in all the glory. As mostly the owners seemed to have wandered off to see the show for themselves, I have no 'story behind the bike' to acquaint you with, but the pictures speak volumes. The standard of paintwork, cleanliness and, in most cases, originality was good. See for yourselves.
On the brace of Jubilee Bonnevilles, I noticed styling 'highlights' that the owners had added to them. The Tiger Cub brought back memories of a girlfriend who owned one -- some 30-odd years ago! It was almost exactly as I remembered hers being. The Post Office Bantam parked next to it spoke of many hours of loving toil.
A 'lived in' Matchless, which just may be a G3 (but don't hang me if I'm wrong - Matchie singles are not my strongest suit!), a nice Morini 3˝ (RealMart really should ride one of these, don't you think? TP), and very clean Honda CB500-four added flavor to the mix. Oh, and, of course, Emm's new Enfield made an appearance to round it all off.
The show rocked along with the usual rock disco, live band, barbecue and refreshments, while a few trade stalls lines one side of the car park. There was a very friendly family atmosphere as most entrants and visitors had their children along. The sun shone, the beer flowed, and many like-minded folk had an enjoyable afternoon checking out the superb machinery and meeting up with old friends as well as making new ones.
It's always worth visiting any show in your area as you never know what you'll find -- like the Norton Rotary racer I saw at the Ace Café the other week. Keep riding. Pictures by Joe and Graham - young bike addicts! Any local events to recommend? |
